PCU/Stepdown Nurse (RN) | Middletown, Ohio

A nursing opportunity is available for experienced registered nurses with step-down or progressive care experience to provide skilled care on a neuroscience and high-risk respiratory unit. This contract role is based in Middletown, OH, offering a focused and supportive clinical environment caring for patients with neurological and complex respiratory conditions.

This 48-hour contract position functions within a team nursing model, partnering RNs, LPNs, and patient care technicians to enhance patient care and balance workload. Target patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6. Candidates must have prior step-down or progressive care unit experience at a 1:5 patient ratio minimum; ICU experience alone is not sufficient. Ventilator management skills and EPIC electronic health record proficiency are required.

Shift and Scheduling

• Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM 7:30 AM)
• Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays

Core Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients with cerebrovascular accidents, seizures, neuro diagnoses, and high-risk respiratory conditions
• Manage ventilated patients using advanced respiratory equipment such as heated high flow and BiPAP
• Collaborate in team nursing assignments or primary nursing based on unit needs
• Float within the healthcare system, including main and satellite campuses as needed

Qualifications and Experience

• Current RN license with mandated certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
• Ventilator experience is essential
• Step-down/Progressive care experience demonstrating a consistent 1:5 patient ratio
• EPIC clinical documentation experience required
• IV start certification preferred
• Prior travel nurse experience preferred
